A Student Reported on the Voluntary Activities in the Disaster Area Through Photos in the "Citizens' Photo & Film Festival 2011 in Hirakata"~Photos Tell The Truth~(11/12/07)
Date.

On December 4th, Shota Moroi (the Department of Economics & Finance of the Faculty of Business Administration) who was dispatched as a volunteer student to the disaster area reported on his activities at a request of Hirakata Citizens' Activity Supporting Center. He made the presentation through the photos he took in the stricken areas in front of citizens in "Citizens' Photo & Film Festival 2011 in Hirakata".
In the reception after the presentation, he exchanged opinions with citizens about the best ways of support.
The impression by Shota Moroi (Freshman of the Department of Economics & Finance of the Faculty of Business Administration)
"I enlisted as a volunteer student for disaster area as requested by the university twice in September and November, and I worked in removing rubble and constructing a wooden deck in Rikuzentakada City, Kamaishi City, and Ozuchi-cho, in Iwate Pref.
The situation of the stricken areas I saw actually was more pathetic than that I saw on TV. The endless mountains of rubble and broken cars, the huge tanker washed ashore, the collapse of thick embankments and the ruins destroyed by fire in succession. Many burning cars were moved by the tsunami and fire spread to burn many buildings and tragic scars were left on the buildings.
I thought I should show these scenes to as many people as possible and spread the bonds of support, and so I continued taking photos. According to the explanation made by guide staff there, although volunteers' help were decreasing, many places that can't be cleaned by other than human hands still remain. To matters worse, mental care for the people there were left undone and so I think the recovery of heart should take priority over the recovery of places. I will continue supporting activities in order to make as many people as possible think about the recovery.
